a-frame 2.0 reveal: outside, living room and kitchen

January 9, 2019

You may remember this post back in April about how Jayden, Robert + I had purchased an a-frame outside of Palm Springs from our pals Sarah + Rupe. One of the perks of buying the house was getting to re-imagine the interior design with Sarah, which was a little bit spesh, indeed. We’ve loved Sarah’s design work ever since she did Light Lab for us about 3 years ago, but since then, she’s gone on to design Mandy Moore’s home, create a hardware line with Park Studio, design concrete tiles with Concrete Collaborative, aaaaand have a second child and move to Michigan. I’m sure I’ve missed 80% of what she’s done, too. She’s a wonder. So, we’re thrilled to start the reveal process of what has been updated!

We started with practically a perfect canvas, and, Sarah + Rupe were lovely enough to leave a lot of their outdoor pieces when they moved to Michigan, so we really only needed a few tiny things. (OK, and a pool, but that will be revealed later this month…)

These Borneo Patio Dining Chairs from Wayfair have been the perfect addition to the table Sarah already picked out for the house. Since the indoor dining table only seats 4, we’ve found that we host a lot of our larger gatherings right here, and it really is as dreamy as it looks!

This part of the yard actually looks completely different now, because, um, there’s a pool here. But the cheery yellow Parasol Italian 6’ Drape Umbrella from Wayfair is absolutely still there, you can be sure of that!

And now, moving on to the inside…

Now I’m not one to pick favorites, but come on. This living room? It’s my favorite.

Sarah + I were initially talking about having 2 identical sofas mirroring each other, and I told her two things.. 1) I was having a serious yellow moment and was hoping we could make that work, and, 2) the sofas basically had to have Crypton Home fabric on them. I know we’re going to have fairly high traffic in the home, with puppies and babies and all kinds of wet towels coming in from long days at the pool, so having fabric that is odor and stain resistant, and that is super easy to clean was a non-negotiable. In the end, the amazing Kim Salmela  made these two custom pieces in Kravet’s Crypton Home Beacon Fabric in Lemon — and yes! You can get them from her, too. Her pieces are amazing, and she always works with Crypton, too, so you don’t want to skip that step.

Next up, the mirrored Marte Lounge Chairs from Urban Outfitters and the Copper Clad Coffee Table from West Elm bring the playful texture that only Sarah can envision, along with the Round Table with White Structure from Zara Home and the Vermut Metal Side Table from CB2. I’ll tell you, I don’t know how she knows that all of these shapes + textures will work together, but she just gets it! She amazes me.

The Helvetia Hand-Woven Brown Area Rug from Wayfair, Hanna White Floor Lamp from CB2 and the Hawa Floor Pillow in Cream from Lulu and Georgia bring the perfect splashes of neutral to the room without making me cry because it’s too neutral (haha).. and finally, CuratedKravet.com really came through with the stunning accessories, like the Horta Bowl from curatedkravet.com and Calla Bowl from curatedkravet.com.

The fireplace macrame is Custom by Elsie Goodwin of Reform Fibers, and sits with the Addie Circle Vase from Urban Outfitters.

The Monaco Bar Cart from Serena & Lily gets a lot of love in Palm Springs… Jayden has become quite the mixologist, so it is well stocked at all times!

Ugh, so good it hurts! Just one more shot before leaving for another room…

Oh, and that curtain in the Covet in Thistle by Kelly Wearstler for Groundworks at Lee Jofa fabric? Yep, that leads to the den bedroom, which is coming in a full reveal on Friday… 😉

Now, we move up the lil step to the kitchen! He is small, but mighty! (I made him a ‘he’ because Jayden is the one who spends the most time there.. hehehe.)

Sarah had already totally nailed the kitchen design with her Semihandmade doors, Fireclay tile + Cedar and Moss pendants, so the only thing to ‘do’ was add a little more color… 😉

The rug is Swallowtail from Block Shop, and is almost too pretty to be in the kitchen… but so far, it seems to be holding up with all of the traffic + the spills, so maybe we’ll let her stay. So friction’ pretty!

The teal dishes are Rockaway 12-Piece Dining Set from Urban Outfitters, the white dishes are Flitighet from IKEA and the cutting boards are all Society6.

Gah. So pretty right? Pretty enough to want to be in! Almost. 😉

I will say, the house is just outside of the PostMates delivery circle, so I *have* been known to whip up a grilled cheese or two while we’re at the house. LA has me spoiled, I won’t lie…

Circle back on Friday! Sarah + I will both be revealing the den bedroom… and then, more comes out next week! xx
