motherhood in a time of corona: steph

April 9, 2020

today is day 25 of quarantine, with a minimum of 21 more to go in los angeles.

this is a wild time to be alive.

all of the weddings i was going to be shooting have been postponed. all of the workshops i was going to travel to teach have been shifted to virtual workshops.

some say photographers aren’t “essential workers” and should be staying home right now. i hear that perspective. there is a part of me that even agrees.

however.

the art history degree in me says.. hang on a minute. ever since photography was invented, photojournalists have been literally risking their lives going into war zones and areas of unrest to capture moments in time, and their work is priceless. its how we learn. how we knew what it felt like to be alive during a moment in time. we celebrate how they saw what was.

so, i decided to start a series.

mothers in a time of corona.

some mama friends of mine are amazing me right now. now only are they working to handle their own needs / mental / health / relationship(s) / business(es), they’re also keeping small humans alive. and supporting them with homeschooling, because adding ‘teacher’ to the daily ‘to do’ list was nbd. real superhero status, tbh.

i want to tell that story.

first up is steph.

she’s mama to lucca + goldie.

more than 6′ of distance was maintained during this shoot.

i’ll be back with more mamas.

until then, if you’re a parent out there right now: thank you. x
